For the love of the Creep.
In the strange way that the gravitational pull of festivals work, many people ended up at the Primavera Sound Festival last night, and they all made it there in their own distinct styles.
The first group bought tickets and got in like normal people. This was not the group I was in.
The second group tried sneaking in for over three hours, being repeatedly caught and escorted back out before they finally succeeded. It took one Hodor like hero to create a distraction by pretending to be drunk and disorderly, sacrificing himself to the security guards so his friends could sneak in. Surprisingly, I was not in this group.
The third group were rather less motivated and just sort of drifted onto a convenient wall outside the concert. By the time Radiohead came on, we were up against the border fence, crisp packets and beer bags hung on the wire. Friends I hadn’t seen for over a year appeared everywhere and halfhearted plans to jump the fence were banded about. Someone called out to the security lady to look away while we jump.
She turned around. I expected her to be annoyed but instead she had the joyous smile of someone hearing the artist they love live. You know that look. You’ve seen it on your friends faces when you turn to scream at each other.
“There is only one reason I took this job, it’s to see Radiohead. I have no money but I fucking love them!”
She may have actually gotten a bigger crowd cheer than Radiohead did.
